WOMAN GETS RS 15 LAKH FOR MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE
A hospital in Nehru Vihar, Karawal Nagar Road, has been directed by a northeast Delhi district consumer forum to pay Rs 15.11 lakh to a woman who suffered a permanent hand disability after she was administered an intramuscular injection wrongly.
According to the woman, she went through caesarean section for the delivery of her child on February 20, 2102. She was given an intramuscular injection two hours later, which led to pains and swelling in her hand. She alleged that despite insincere assurances by the hospital, her condition continued to worsen and she was denied treatment records when she decided to see another doctor.
She insisted that she suffered severe damages and is unable to do everyday chores because the hospital did not provide her with necessary services.
The hospital denied the allegations, saying that the woman was an unhealthy patient who was having her fourth pregnancy.
The hospital claimed that the woman was advised to restrict movement of her right hand where a tube was inserted prior to the surgery, to which she acted against. This led to the swelling for which she was treated appropriately.
It was decided that the hospital failed to provide the required services to the woman and for this reason the hospital was fined.
