Recently, the Indian government has shown approval for talent by approving a bullet proof jacket for the Indian Army designed by Dr Shantanu Bhowmick who is a Bengali scientist. The committee in charge of the Ministry of Defence approved the jacket, the jacket is made from indigenous ultra-modern light weight thermoplastic materials.

According to reports going around, the process of producing the jackets will start after the project management office (PMO) approves it and if all goes well, it will be recorded as the first time that the Indian army will be making use of home-made bullet proof jackets.

From reports, India spends over Rs1.5 lakh on a jacket used by the military and other military agency now as the jackets are usually imported from America. Dr Shantanu’s jacket will cost Rs 50,000 for each jacket. That will help the country to save Rs 20,000 crores each year.
