DID A 20-YEAR-OLD MARRY A 75-YEAR-OLD MAN AT MP GOVT’S MASS WEDDING CEREMONY?
NEW DELHI: A picture has emerged of a rather eccentric newly-weds, allegedly at the mass wedding ceremony organized by the Madhya Pradesh government.
A point of interest in the picture is that the groom looks old enough to be the bride’s grandfather.
The picture is tagged alongside a message which reads ‘In a mass wedding arranged by the Madhya Pradesh government on May 22, 2400 couples got married’.
To ascertain the authenticity of the picture, a news agency visited Singrauli, the venue of the wedding in Madhya Pradesh district. The photographs of the mass wedding organized by the government were assessed but the photograph of the uneven couple was not found.
After a second inquest, the organizer of mass weddings in the state said that the picture was not a part of any mass wedding ceremony that took place in the district.
The denial by the organizer was considered to be an attempt to save face, so the ‘Maulvi’ who read the oaths in the mass wedding was approached. The ‘maulvi’ also denied directing such a wedding.
Further rigorous investigations revealed that the picture was actually uploaded on a Bangladeshi website in March 2016, ascertaining that the claims made on the picture were untrue.
