AADHAR CARDS TO BE LINKED WITH PAN, INCOME TAX DEPARTMENT DECLARES
Every individual’s Aadhaar in India will be linked with the Permanent Account Number, a ten-digit number, the Income tax department had declared. They said it will be a pertinent procedure for filing IT returns on the website “http:incometaxindiafiling.gov.in/” on which a new link had been created on its homepage to ease the linking of the two unique identities of Indian residents.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) which issues Adhaaar will be in charge of linking the information, and if correct details are inputted, the UIDAI will confirm the linking; whereas any mismatch (incorrect birthdates and gender) in the Aadhaar name provided will generated an Aadkhar OTP (one time password) to be typed by the owner of the card. Advising taxpayers and individuals at large, the department reiterated that the OTP will be sent to the mobile numbers and e-mail of the individual only. This, they explained, was to eliminate impersonation or fraud.
The Aadhaar which had been made mandatory for taxpayers, under the Finance Act 2017, to be used to quote Aadhaar, enrolment of Aadhaar ID and application for filing income tax returns (ITR). It had also been made mandatory that Aadhaar be used for applications for PAN starting from the 1st of July, 2017.
Till date, the department of justice has helped link more than 1.8 crore Aadhaar cards with their PAN database.
